Description of this Vintage Whiskey Plaque
Jack Daniel's is a brand of whiskey from Tennessee and the best-selling American whiskey in the world. It is produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee, by the Jack Daniel Distillery, which has been owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation since 1956. Moore County, where Jack Daniel's comes from, is a dry county, and the product is not therefore not available for sale in stores or restaurants in the county.
The product meets the regulatory criteria to be classified as a straight bourbon, although the company disavows this classification. It markets the liquor simply as Tennessee whiskey rather than Tennessee bourbon. As defined by the North American Free Trade Agreement, Tennessee whiskey is classified as a straight bourbon whose production is authorized in the State of Tennessee.[10] Tennessee law (57-2-106) further requires that most producers of Tennessee whiskey filter the alcohol through charcoal made from maple before aging, in addition to meeting the requirements above (the “Lincoln County Process”).
Packaged in square bottles, Jack Daniel's "Black Label" Tennessee whiskey sold 12.5 million cases in fiscal 2017, which ended April 30, 2017. Other variants of the brand , such as Tennessee Honey, Gentleman Jack and Tennessee Fire, added another 2.9 million cases to sales. Sales of an additional 800,000 equivalent cases of ready-to-drink (RTD) products brought the fiscal year total to more than 16.1 million adjusted equivalent cases across the entire Jack Daniel's family of brands.
