Description of this Street Fighter Poster
Street Fighter is a 1994 action film written and directed by Steven E. de Souza, based on the video game series of the same name produced by Capcom. Distributed by Universal Pictures in the United States and Columbia Pictures internationally, the film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia (in his last film) as well as supporting roles from Byron Mann, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Wes Studi. Loosely based on the plot of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, the film focuses on the efforts of Colonel Guile (Van Damme) to bring down military dictator and drug lord General M. Bison (Juliá). of Shadaloo City who aspires to take over the world with an army of genetic supersoldiers, while enlisting the help of street fighters Ryu (Mann) and Ken (Chapa) to infiltrate the Bison empire and help destroy it from interior.
The film was a commercial success, with worldwide box office revenues approximately three times its production costs, and its home video releases and television broadcasts were also profitable, with the film grossing Capcom $15 .5 billion yen ($165 million) at the box office and in domestic media. In the Shadaloo nation of Southeast Asia, a civil war has broken out between the forces of drug lord turned General M. Bison and the Allied Nations led by Colonel William F. Guile. Bison has captured several UN aid workers and, through a live two-way radio broadcast, demands that Guile obtain a US$20 billion ransom within three days. Guile refuses and promises to find Bison and try him for his crimes, but his assistant, Lieutenant Cammy White, is only partially able to locate Bison in the River Delta region outside of town. One of the hostages is Guile's friend Sergeant Carlos "Charlie" Blanka, whom Bison orders to take to his laboratory so that his captive doctor and scientist, Dhalsim, can transform him into the first of his supersoldiers. Although Charlie is severely disfigured by the procedure, Dhalsim secretly modifies his brain programming to maintain Charlie's humanity.
American crooks Ryu Hoshi and Ken Masters attempt to defraud arms dealer Viktor Sagat by supplying him with fake weapons. Sagat sees the ruse and has Ryu fight his cage champion, Vega, but Guile bursts in and arrests everyone present for violating curfew. In the prison grounds, Guile sees Ryu and Ken fighting Sagat's men and recruits them to help him find Bison in exchange for their freedom, Sagat being Bison's weapons supplier. They receive a tracking device and gain Sagat's trust by staging a prison break and faking Guile's death. However, journalist Chun-Li Zang, whose father was killed by Bison, and her team, former sumo wrestler Edmond Honda and boxer Balrog, who want revenge on Sagat for ruining their careers, discover the plan. by chance. Despite Guile's objections, they attempt to assassinate the two warlords at a party. To maintain Bison's trust, Ryu and Ken prevent the assassination and reveal the conspirators to Bison.
Returning to his base, Bison inducts Ryu and Ken into his organization and orders Honda and Balrog imprisoned and Chun-Li taken to his quarters. Ryu and Ken free Balrog and Honda from their imprisonment and rush to confront Bison, who is fighting Chun-Li, but Bison escapes and releases sleeping gas, putting them all to sleep. Guile plans the attack on Bison's base. He is prevented by the Deputy Secretary of the AN, who informs Guile that the decision has been made to pay the ransom to Bison, but Guile and his loyal troops continue the mission nonetheless. At the base, Dhalsim is discovered by a security guard; During the ensuing fight, Charlie is freed and he kills the guard to protect Dhalsim. Guile arrives and sneaks into the lab, where he meets Charlie. Guile is about to shoot Charlie to end his suffering, but Dhalsim stops him. Bison prepares to kill the hostages by unleashing Charlie on them, but Guile emerges and engages Bison's guards until the remaining AN forces arrive. After Bison makes it clear that he will not surrender peacefully, Guile orders his allies to rescue the hostages and engages Bison in a personal duel. While Guile and Bison fight, Ryu and Ken defeat Sagat and Vega. Dee Jay, Bison's computer scientist, escapes through a secret passage, joined by Sagat. Zangief, Bison's bodyguard, engages in combat with Honda until he learns from Dee Jay that Bison is the true enemy of freedom and peace, and sides with Ryu and Ken to save the hostages.
Guile gets the upper hand on Bison and pushes him into a bank of hard drives, electrocuting him. A life support system restores Bison and he reveals that his suit includes advanced automatic first aid mechanisms and electrical weapons, including superconducting boots that allow him to fly. These gadgets allow Bison to gain the upper hand and viciously beat Guile. As he prepares to deliver the finishing blow, Guile retaliates by sending Bison into the wall of his monitor, which explodes, seemingly killing him and overloading the base's superconducting energy storage system. The hostages are rescued, but Guile stays behind to convince Dhalsim and Charlie to return with him. They refuse, Dhalsim wanting to atone for his responsibilities by transferring Charlie. Guile flees the exploding base and reunites with his comrades.
