Description of this Louis De Funès Poster
“Les Grandes Vacances” is a French film directed by Jean Girault in 1967, starring the unforgettable Louis de Funès and a choice cast including Claude Gensac, Olivier de Funès, Martine Kelly, Geneviève Fontanel and Christian Marin.
The story follows the Bosquier family, a bourgeois Parisian family, who go on vacation to a campsite at the beach. They are welcomed by the campsite director, Monsieur Pic, played by Louis de Funès, an eccentric and dynamic character who has a natural talent for complicating the lives of others. The Bosquier family, for its part, is made up of the father, Mr. Bosquier, who is an unfriendly businessman, the mother, Madame Bosquier, who is more gentle and loving, and their four children, Jacqueline, Nicole, Christian and Philippe, each with their own personality and problems.
The vacation will quickly turn into a nightmare for the Bosquier family, between marital disputes, the children's heart problems, misunderstandings with the other campers and the incessant pranks of Monsieur Pic, who takes great pleasure in teasing them. However, over the course of events, the family will learn to rediscover themselves, to help each other and to find solutions to their problems.
The film is a light and funny comedy, which plays on social differences and family relationships. It humorously depicts the typical summer vacations of the 60s, between dance evenings, pétanque competitions and beach romances. But beyond humor, the film also conveys a positive message about family, solidarity and tolerance.
Louis de Funès' acting is simply incredible, and his character of Monsieur Pic has become cult. His performance is of great finesse and many moments in the film are hilarious thanks to his exceptional acting. The other actors are also very good, especially Claude Gensac, who plays the role of the mother.
In short, “Les Grandes Vacances” is an entertaining film, which succeeds in mixing humor and emotion to give us an excellent time. It has become a classic of French cinema and is regularly rebroadcast on television.
