Description of this Scarface Poster

Scarface is a 1983 American drama film directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone. It is a retelling of the 1932 film of the same name and tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino), who arrives in Miami penniless in the 1980s and becomes a powerful drug trafficker. The film stars Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Robert Loggia.2 De Palma dedicated this version of Scarface to the writers of the original film, Howard Hawks and Ben Hecht.

After watching the 1932 film, Pacino became interested in starring in a new version of the film and began developing it alongside producer Martin Bregman. Sidney Lumet was initially hired to direct it, but was replaced by De Palma, who hired Stone to write the script. Filming took place from November 1982 to May 1983 in Los Angeles and Miami. The film's soundtrack was composed by Giorgio Moroder.

Scarface premiered in New York on December 1, 1983 and premiered on December 9, 1983 by Universal Pictures. The film grossed $45 million at the US box office and $66 million worldwide. Initial critical reception was negative due to its excessive violence, strong language, and graphic drug use. Some Cuban expatriates in Miami objected to the film's portrayal of Cubans as criminals and drug traffickers. In the years since, critics have re-evaluated it to the point where it is considered one of the best gangster films.45 Writers and directors like Martin Scorsese have praised the film and it has been widely mentioned in pop culture, as well as in music, comic books, television shows and video games. The film has become a cult film.

Antonio "Tony" Montana is a former Cuban prisoner who arrived in the United States during the Mariel exodus in May 1980. Along with their best friend, Manolo "Manny" Ribera, they are detained in Key West with the rest of the other Cuban refugees in waiting for a political resolution. Inside the grounds, a Miami tycoon named Frank Lopez orders them to kill a high-ranking communist official from Cuba who has fallen out of favor with Fidel Castro, Emilio Rebenga, who is in the camp. During a riot, Tony murders Rebenga and, in return, Tony, Manny and their friend Ángel get them the so-called green cards.

Tony and Manny start working at a food stall until they are visited by an associate of Frank Lopez: Omar Suárez. Omar gives them a risky but well-paid job of carrying out a cocaine trade with some Colombians in a motel. This meeting brings together Tony and Manny as well as two of his friends, Ángel and Chichi. However, the exchange turns out to be a trap set up by Colombians, who assassinate Angel so that Tony will reveal the location of the money. When they were about to torture Tony, Manny and Chi-Chi, managing to escape alive after Tony eliminated the ringleader.

Tony contacts Omar and is determined to deliver the cocaine and money directly to Frank. He receives them very cordially at his mansion, insisting that they both work for him. They also meet his girlfriend Elvira Hancock, who Tony immediately falls for. Tony becomes rich working for Frank Lopez and visits his mother and sister Gina in an attempt to give them money, which his mother rejects as disapproving of Tony's criminal activities. Despite everything, Gina is happy with her brother's return.

Tony and Omar are sent to Bolivia to make a deal with powerful drug trafficker Alejandro Sosa. Tony manages to reach a deal with Sosa on Frank's behalf, despite having no authority to do so, which ultimately derails Omar, who decides to return to Miami. Sosa and Tony stay together as he watches Omar hang from a rope from a helicopter, with Sosa revealing that Omar was a police informant. Tony insists he's not a snitch and promises to make things right with Frank; Tony makes a good impression on Sosa, who decides to collaborate with him.

Back in Miami, Frank is furious with Tony for acting behind his back, as he does not trust Sosa or the great expense of dealing with him. Tony insists it's a good deal, but Frank decides to postpone the deal and warns Tony not to act beyond his powers if he wants to last in business. Tony, increasingly disenchanted with Frank's attitude, visits Elvira, declaring his love and proposing that she marry him, ensuring that Frank will not last.

One night, Tony and Manny visit the Babylon club, a regular nightclub of Miami's top drug moguls. A man named Mel Bernstein insists on speaking to him, revealing himself to be a corrupt police officer, who demands a series of payments from Tony to stop the police from pursuing him; Tony is forced to accept. At the same time, her sister Gina finds herself dancing provocatively with a man, infuriating Tony, who chases her into the bathroom to stop his sister from having sex with him. Gina becomes angry with Tony, believing he treats her like a daughter, and is taken home by Manny, their sensing the attraction they feel for each other. Later, Tony approaches Elvira with the intention of flirting with her. Frank looks at him and asks him to leave, but Tony ignores him. Before the discussion continues, Frank and Elvira leave. Tony stays in the club, until gunmen start a shootout in an attempt to eliminate Tony, who manages to escape. Tony is sure that Frank sent Mel to blackmail him and the thugs, so he calls Manny to meet him and has one of his friends call Frank to confirm that he is the traitor.

Tony, Manny and Chichi go to Frank, who is with Bernstein. At that moment, the phone rings and Frank claims it's Elvira, confirming Tony's suspicions, so he decides to delete it. Despite Frank's pleas and attempted bribe, Tony asks Manny to finish him off. Bernstein, undaunted, confirms that Frank was furious about what happened to Elvira. Tony decides to eliminate Bernstein for his previous blackmail and leaves for Frank's house, where he tells Elvira of his death.

The film takes a temporary leap, during which Tony is shown to have replaced Frank as head of the organization and married Elvira. Tony begins to live the life he always dreamed of, acquiring a luxurious mansion. However, his new position and his addiction to cocaine made him a paranoid with a stormy nature, obsessed with police harassment and fear of other drug dealers. In turn, another problem arises when the bank responsible for laundering his money tells him that they are going to increase the percentages, which makes Tony look for someone else to carry it out. Through Manny, Tony contacts a Jew, but it turns out to be an undercover cop, with Tony being arrested for money laundering and tax evasion. His lawyer informs him that he will be able to avoid the most serious charges, so as not to go to prison.

Tony's life becomes more and more miserable. His addiction has caused him to acquire an increasingly irrational and irascible character, and, during a dinner in a restaurant, Elvira abandons him when Tony accuses her of being sterile due to her cocaine addiction.

Determined not to go to prison, Tony travels to Bolivia to meet Sosa again. He, along with his important associates, offers her a murder charge in exchange for avoiding prison. Tony's objective was to go to New York to assassinate a journalist who was preparing to reveal in a speech at the UN the criminal activities of Sosa and his associates in the Bolivian and American government. Tony, along with Sosa's man, has to eliminate this reporter when he was in his car, however, Tony refuses to do so, as his wife and children were also in the reporter's vehicle. After an argument with Sosa's man, Tony becomes furious and shoots him, ruining the operation. Tony contacts Sosa, who informs him that the journalist managed to deliver his speech and that what's more, they located the bomb located under his car and that now this man has protection at all times. Sosa begins to insult him and cryptically promises revenge.

Tony finds out that Gina has run off with a man, so he visits her mother. Upon reaching the address where he was, he discovers that it is the house of Manny, who welcomes him in a dress and sees Gina with him. Blinded by jealousy and irrationality, Tony immediately shoots him, ending his life. Crying and hugging his corpse, Gina reveals that they had both gotten married the day before, while Tony was away, and were going to tell him the next day. Tony orders his men to take Gina with him, leaving Manny's body.

Back at the mansion, Sosa's men attack him. Completely drugged and embarrassed by Manny's death, Tony is unable to actively respond to the attack. All of Tony's men fall one by one before Sosa, while Gina, visibly affected, is also killed by another thug. After observing his sister's body, Tony goes on a rampage and frantically shoots Sosa's hitmen, who were preparing to enter his office. Tony kills a large number of hitmen, until Sosa's right hand, known as "The Skull", shoots him in the back with a shotgun. Tony's body is placed in a water fountain where his personal motto was: "The world is yours".
