Description of this Predator Poster

Predator is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by John McTiernan and written by brothers Jim and John Thomas, the first installment in the Predator franchise. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary team on a mission to rescue hostages in guerrilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest in Guatemala, who encounters the deadly Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), a skilled and technologically advanced alien who stalks and hunts them.

The screenplay for Predator was written in 1984 under the working title Hunter. Filming took place from March to June 1986, with creature effects designed by Stan Winston; the budget was around $15 million. 20th Century Fox released the film on June 12, 1987 in the United States, and it grossed $98 million worldwide. Early reviews were mixed, but the film has since been considered an action science fiction classic and one of the best films of the 1980s. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects .

The success of Predator spawned a franchise of films, novels, comic books, video games and toys. It gave rise to four sequels: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018) and Prey (2022). A crossover with the Alien franchise gave rise to the Alien vs. Predator, including Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

An alien spaceship deploys a shuttle to Earth, where Vietnam War veteran Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer[5] and his military rescue team, consisting of Mac, Poncho, Blain, Billy and Hawkins, are tasked with rescuing a foreign minister and his aide from insurgents in an unspecified South American country. CIA agent Al Dillon, a friend of Dutch's during the Vietnam War, is assigned to accompany the team, despite Dutch's objections. En route, the team discovers the wreckage of a helicopter and three skinned corpses. Dutch identifies them as Green Berets he knew and is suspicious of Dillon's intentions. The team reaches the guerrilla camp and witnesses the execution of a hostage. They mount an attack, killing most of the rebels and several Soviet intelligence officers. Dutch confronts Dillon, who reveals that their real mission was to stop a planned invasion by the Soviets and that the CIA had sent the Green Berets a few weeks earlier on the same mission.

The only surviving guerrilla, Anna, is captured. Learning that more rebels are coming, the team chooses to go to the extraction point. They are followed by an entity using a cloaking device and thermal imaging technology, but a frightened Billy spots it, creating a situation where Anna tries to escape. Hawkins catches up with her, but the creature attacks and kills him while sparing Anna. Dutch organizes a search party, but Blain is killed by the creature's plasma cannon. Furious, Mac encourages everyone to shoot blindly into the jungle, unknowingly harming the creature. While the creature administers first aid, the commandos regroup and realize that they are being hunted. Dillon believes two or three guerrillas are responsible, but Billy is convinced their pursuer is not human. They set up camp for the night and set traps, which are triggered by a wild boar. In the confusion, Mac kills him while the creature steals Blain's body.

Dutch later realizes that their enemy is using trees to travel and frees Anna, who states that her people have seen mutilated bodies in similar ways before. The next day, the group builds a net trap and captures the creature, but it breaks free and Poncho is injured. Mac and Dillon pursue her but are overtaken and killed. As the survivors flee, Billy stays behind to fight the creature. The creature kills Billy before following the survivors and killing Poncho. Realizing that the creature does not attack unarmed people, Dutch tells Anna, who is unarmed, to go to the helicopter. Dutch attempts to distract the creature by running away, but he is followed to a muddy bank and covered in mud. The creature doesn't see him and goes to get the others' trophies. Dutch realizes that the coolness of the mud allows him to hide his body heat. He makes traps and makeshift weapons and lures the creature into the night with a war cry and a torch.

Dutch lightly injures the creature and deactivates its cloaking device as the creature shoots wildly into the forest, and attempts to escape, but accidentally falls into the river, where the water dissolves its muddy camouflage. When the creature approaches Dutch, it removes its mask and plasma cannon to fight him in hand-to-hand combat, having deemed him a worthy opponent. Although he is more powerful and smarter than him, Dutch tries to lure the creature into a trap. The creature bypasses the trap, but Dutch triggers it anyway, crushing the creature with the trap's counterweight. The alien being mortally wounded, he asks him: “But what are you?” The creature repeats the question to Dutch and activates its self-destruct device, laughing maniacally as it counts down. Realizing what he has done, Dutch runs for cover and survives the explosion. He is then rescued by the extraction helicopter, with Anna already safely on board,
