Description of this Operation Dragon Poster
Operation Dragon is a 1973 martial arts action film directed by Robert Clouse. The film stars Bruce Lee, John Saxon and Jim Kelly. This is Lee's last completed film appearance before his death on July 20, 1973 at the age of 32. Co-produced by the United States and Hong Kong, it had its world premiere in Los Angeles on August 19, 1973, a month after Lee's death. The film grossed approximately $350 million worldwide (over $1 billion when adjusted for inflation), on a budget of $850,000. Having grossed over 400 times its budget, it is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, as well as the highest-grossing martial arts film.
Operation Dragon is widely considered one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. In 2004, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress due to its "cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance." Among the first films to combine martial arts action with elements of spy films and the emerging genre of blaxploitation, its success led to a series of similar productions combining martial arts and blaxploitation. Its themes have also sparked scholarly debate about how they reflect changes in post-colonial Asian societies after the end of World War II. Operation Dragon is also considered one of the most influential action films of all time, its success helping to spark global public interest in martial arts and inspiring numerous works of fiction, including films from action, TV shows, fighting games, comics, manga and anime.
