Description of this Once Upon a Time in America Poster
Once Upon a Time in America, directed by Sergio Leone, is an epic and complex film that explores themes of friendship, betrayal, love and redemption against the backdrop of organized crime in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. The film follows the journey of David "Noodles" Aaronson, played by Robert De Niro, and his childhood friends, Max, Patsy and Cockeye, through different eras of their lives.
The story begins in the 1920s, when Noodles and his cohorts grew up on the poor streets of Manhattan's Lower East Side. Together, they form a gang of petty criminals, committing petty theft and theft to survive. Their reputation quickly grows and they find themselves involved in the world of organized crime under the protection of the influential local mafia boss, Bugsy.
The film alternates between the past and the present, revealing the tragic consequences of the actions committed by Noodles and his gang. In the present, Noodles is a broken and lonely man who returns to New York after many years of exile. Upon his release several years later, Noodles discovers that Max has formed alliances with corrupt politicians and become one of the city's most powerful criminals.
