Description of this Never Again Poster

Never Again is a 1983 spy film directed by Irvin Kershner. The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1961 novel Thunder, which itself is based on an original story by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham and Fleming. The novel had already been adapted in 1965 into the film of the same name. Never Again is the second and most recent James Bond film not to be produced by Eon Productions, the usual producer of the Bond series, but by Jack Schwartzman's Taliafilm, and was distributed by Warner Bros. instead of United Artists. The film is produced by Kevin McClory, one of the original screenwriters of the Tonnerre story. McClory retained the film rights to the novel following a lengthy legal battle dating back to the 1960s.

Sean Connery played the role of Bond for the seventh and final time, marking his return to the character 12 years after Diamonds Are Forever. The film's title is a reference to Connery's 1971 statement that he would "never" play the role again. With Connery being 52 years old at the time of filming, the script often refers to Bond as aging and past the age of maturity, even though, ironically, Connery was three years younger than the acting Bond, Roger Moore. The storyline sees Bond return to action to investigate the theft of two nuclear weapons by SPECTER. Filming took place in France, Spain, the Bahamas and at Elstree Studios in the United Kingdom.

Never Again was released by Warner Bros. on October 7, 1983, and was favorably received by critics, with Connery and Klaus Maria Brandauer's acting hailed as having greater emotional resonance than the usual Bond films of the era. The film grossed $160 million at the box office, making it a commercial success, although it earned less than the Eon-produced film Octopussy released the same year.
