Description of this Gremlins Movie Poster

Gremlins is a 1984 American horror comedy film, directed by Joe Dante, who also held this position for the sequel, Gremlins 2, released in 1990. The main roles are played by Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. With a budget of $11 million, the film grossed $148 million in the United States alone. The film was released on October 26, 1984 in German cinemas.

Randall Peltzer of Kingston Falls is an inventor of bizarre everyday devices that are supposed to make life easier, but usually don't work properly. While on a business trip, Peltzer buys the Mogwai Gizmo from the grandson of a mysterious Chinatown merchant. It is a small animal covered in fur that can sing. The merchant's grandson gives him three rules to follow:

  • never expose the mogwai to sunlight,
  • do not let the mogwai get wet,
  • do not let the Mogwai feed after midnight.

Peltzer gives the cute little animal to his son Billy as a Christmas present and shortly after, the first mishap occurs: Gizmo gets wet and a multitude of new mogwais come out of his fur in spasms. But these have different character traits and behave extremely antisocially. So Billy goes to the local college to show a mogwai to his old biology teacher, Mr. Roy Hanson, who then takes a blood sample from the furry creature using a syringe to run some tests.

Meanwhile, in Billy's room, the other mogwaïs nibble on the electrical cable of his alarm clock. Looking at the hands of his alarm which have stopped, Billy therefore ignorantly feeds the voracious animals after midnight. The Mogwais then pupate and escape from their black cocoons as aggressive lizard-like gremlins. Then, in the Peltzer family house, the green beasts attack Billy's mother, who bursts a Gremlin in the microwave. Plus, Mother Lynn tears another Gremlin into a kitchen blender. Using a sword hanging on the living room wall, his son Billy, who has rushed in, decapitates another Gremlin during a melee, whose severed head flies into the fireplace and burns in the flames . After he and Billy's mother are able to kill the goblin gremlins, except for their leader Stripe, who has white Iroquois hair on his head, he takes refuge in a YMCA building . In the swimming pool there, he multiplies by jumping into the water and transforms into an army of little monsters hungry for destruction, which plunge the peaceful village into chaos on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, wild gremlins have fun at Dorry's Tavern Irish pub with alcohol, tobacco and gambling, while hateful creatures, who show a tendency to disguise themselves with hats, sunglasses and makeup, tear the pub to pieces. In the Irish pub, Kate Beringer, Billy's new friend, works as a waitress and is harassed by the Gremlins. When Kate notices that a Gremlin backs away from the blaze of a struck match, the young woman manages to scare away some of the evil monsters using the flash of an instant camera. Additionally, Billy arrives in his snow-covered VW Beetle, who frees his friend from her predicament thanks to her car's dazzling headlights, after which Billy and Kate take refuge in the nearby credit union, where Billy works as a banker during the day .

During a gas explosion caused by Billy in a cinema where the nasty long-eared creatures had gathered to watch the Walt Disney cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs together, all the Gremlins are killed again, the exception of their leader Stripe. During a showdown in a department store, Gizmo kills the latter by lifting a window blind to let in sunlight. This is the end of the episode. As the Peltzer family returns to normal in their living room, the Asian merchant from Chinatown pays them a visit. In a rabid plea against the Western world's unnatural way of life, he explains to Mr. Peltzer and his son Billy that they are not yet ready, due to their irresponsibility, to keep the mogwai as a pet. company, and he takes it back with him. The gray-bearded Asian only recognizes in young Billy the human size that will perhaps one day allow him to be a match for the guard of the Mogwai Gizmo.

At the end, Father Randall Peltzer, authorial narrator in voice-over, who had already introduced the action at the beginning of the film, urges the spectators not to call the craftsmen directly when "the air conditioning breaks down, the washing machine doesn't doesn't work or the VCR dies", but first turn on the lights throughout the house and search everything - because a Gremlin could be hiding in the house.
