Description of this Merlin The Enchanter Poster
Merlin The Magician is a 1963 American animated musical fantasy film, produced by Walt Disney and distributed by Buena Vista Distribution. It is Disney's 18th animated feature film, based on the novel of the same name by T.H. White, first published in 1938, then revised and republished in 1958 as the first book in White's Arthurian tetralogy, The King of yesterday and tomorrow. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, the film features the voices of Rickie Sorensen, Karl Swenson, Junius Matthews, Sebastian Cabot, Norman Alden and Martha Wentworth. It is the last Walt Disney Productions animated film to be released during Walt Disney's lifetime.
Disney first acquired the film rights to the novel in 1939, and there were several attempts to develop the film over the next two decades before production on the film officially began. Bill Peet wrote the film's story, while the songs were written by the Sherman Brothers. This is the first Disney animated film to have songs composed by the Sherman brothers; they later contributed music to Disney films such as Mary Poppins (1964), The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocrats (1970), and The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977). George Bruns composed the music for the film, having worked on Disney's two previous animated films, Sleeping Beauty (1959) and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). He also composed the music for Disney's next three animated films, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats and Robin Hood (1973).
The film received mixed reviews, but became a box office success. A live-action remake entered development in 2015 and is expected to be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and released on Disney+.
