Description of this Vintage Lyon Poster
Originally produced in 1887 by Henry Gins, this vintage advertising poster is dedicated to the city of Lyon. The artist shows us the most curious elements of the city, where we can see the Notre Dame de Fourvière basilica, a neo-Gothic cathedral which was completed in 1872. At the time, the Advertising visuals focused on the most significant places in cities by representing them in medallions, as we can see in this vintage visual. We can also recognize the Pont du Change as well as the statue of Louis XIV (Place Bellecour). The elegant woman in the foreground seems to be inspecting the various monuments, as the admirer of the poster (and perhaps a future traveler!) would do. The fact that it is a woman is not a coincidence: it was generally women who chose the travel destinations among the bourgeoisie. There is no doubt that this vintage Lyon poster will be ideal for giving a retro style to your wall decoration.
