Description of this Jackie Brown Poster

Jackie Brown is a 1997 American crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, based on the novel Rum Punch (1992) by Elmore Leonard. It stars Pam Grier as Jackie Brown, a flight attendant who is caught red-handed smuggling money. Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro appear in supporting roles.

Jackie Brown pays homage to the blaxploitation films of the 1970s, particularly Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974), both starring Grier. It is the only feature film that Tarantino has adapted from another work.

Jackie Brown revitalized the careers of Grier and Forster, who had not had a starring role in many years. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Forster and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Jackson and Grier. The film was released on December 25, 1997, received positive reviews, and grossed $74 million worldwide.

Jackie Brown, a flight attendant, smuggles money from Mexico to the United States for Ordell Robbie, a Los Angeles arms dealer. When Ordell's courier, Beaumont Livingston, is arrested, he hires Max Cherry, a bail bond agent, to release him on bail. To prevent Beaumont from talking to the police, Ordell kills him.

Acting on information Beaumont had already given them, ATF agent Ray Nicolette and Los Angeles Police Detective Mark Dargus intercept Jackie with Ordell's money and a bag of cocaine. After Jackie is incarcerated, Ordell hires Max to post bail. Ordell arrives at Jackie's apartment, but Jackie pulls out a gun she stole from Max's glove compartment. She negotiates a deal with Ordell: she will pretend to help the authorities while passing along $550,000 of Ordell's money.

Ordell enlists the help of Louis Gara, a criminal associate and former cellmate who has just been released from prison. Meanwhile, Melanie Ralston, one of Ordell's wives, tries to convince Louis to betray Ordell and take the money. Louis talks to Ordell about it, but he replies that he doesn't care about her.

Unaware of the plan to smuggle $550,000, Nicolette and Dargus hatch a scheme to catch Ordell in a $50,000 transfer. Jackie plans to keep the $500,000 for herself. She recruits Max by offering him a piece of the pie. In a test, Jackie smuggles $10,000, with Nicolette and Dargus's knowledge, to exchange with Sheronda, Ordell's girlfriend, at a mall. After Jackie leaves, Max observes an unknown woman exchanging bags with Sheronda. He informs Jackie who confronts Ordell, who claims to have used Simone Hawkins, one of his contacts, to secure his money.

On the day of the transfer, Ordell discovers that Simone has left town with the $10,000. He reluctantly recruits Melanie to make the exchange for him. Jackie enters a department store fitting room to try on a suit. Although she told Nicolette the exchange would take place in the food court, she told Ordell she would exchange the bags in the fitting room. The bag contains only $40,000; Jackie leaves the rest in the fitting room for Max. Jackie takes $10,000 and places it on the bag she gave Melanie as a bonus. Jackie runs to the food court and finds Nicolette, claiming that Melanie broke into the dressing room and stole the money.

In the parking lot, Mélanie makes fun of Louis because he forgot where they parked. He loses his temper and kills her. Louis warns Ordell, who discovers that most of the money is missing. When Louis remembers seeing Max at the mall, Ordell, enraged, kills Louis.

Ordell instructs Max to tell Jackie that Ordell will kill them if she doesn't return the money and that if she goes to the police he will name her as an accomplice. Max goes to Ordell and tells him that Jackie, scared, is waiting in Max's office with the money. Ordell holds Max at gunpoint when they enter his office. Jackie shouts that Ordell is armed. Nicolette, Dargus and Winston, hiding in the back, ambush him and shoot him dead. The charges against Jackie are dropped and she plans a trip to Madrid. Max declines her invitation to join her. They kiss and he watches her leave.
