Description of this Full Sun Film Poster
Plein soleil is a Franco-Italian detective film directed by René Clément in 1960 and based on the novel The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith.
The young American Tom Ripley murders Philippe Greenleaf, the son of a millionaire living in Italy, and takes his identity to seize his fortune.
Philippe Greenleaf is the son of a millionaire and lives in Italy with his girlfriend Marge. He drags in his wake his compatriot Tom Ripley, whom Philippe's father has charged, in exchange for a success fee of 5,000 US dollars, to convince Philippe to return to San Francisco. Philippe, who makes Marge and Ripley the playthings of his whims, however, does not plan to return. Ripley has taken a liking to Philippe's way of life and decides to kill him. After an argument between Philippe and Marge during a boat trip, staged by Ripley, Marge returns to land, only the two men remaining on board. Ripley stabs Philippe, throws the anchor-weighted body overboard, and assumes Philippe's identity. In a letter written under the name Philippe, he explains to Marge the end of their relationship. When Freddy Miles, an acquaintance of Philippe's, accidentally finds himself on his trail, he eliminates him as well. Therefore, the police suspect Philippe of the murder of Freddy Miles. Ripley decides to reappear under her own name, fakes Philippe's suicide and names Marge as her heir in a false will. The will is recognized by Philippe's father. Ripley successfully courts Marge in order to continue benefiting from Philippe's fortune. He seems to have achieved the goal of his desires, but during the sale of Philippe's boat, his body is discovered - the rope surrounding it had become caught in the propeller. Ripley is doomed.
