Description of this Dumbo Poster

Dumbo, which was also presented in Germany under the title Dumbo, the Flying Elephant, is the fourth animated feature film from Walt Disney Studios and dates from 1941. It is loosely based on the story of the elephant Jumbo. The story Dumbo, the Flying Elephant (1939) by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl is the model. The film received an Academy Award in 1942 in the Best Film Score category and was also nominated for the song Baby Mine in the Best Song category.

After the two previous Disney films, Pinocchio and Fantasia, had failed to meet the studio's profit expectations, Dumbo was tried to work significantly less expensively, which is reflected in particular in the relatively short duration of the film.

In 2019, the live-action film Dumbo was reinterpreted.

The stork finally brings Mrs. Jumbo, a circus elephant, the son she has been waiting for for a long time. She calls him Jumbo jr, but because of his exceptionally large ears, the other elephants denigrate him by calling him "Dumbo" (from the English "dumbo": idiot).

When Dumbo is teased by some young circus visitors because of his ears, Mrs. Jumbo turns on the people to protect him. Mrs. Jumbo is then locked in a cage.

Shortly after, Dumbo meets Timothy the mouse and becomes friends with him. Timothy arranges for the circus director to make Dumbo the star of his next act: the little elephant must jump to the top of a large elephant tower. But during the performance, Dumbo trips on his ears and causes the tower and the entire marquee to collapse.

From then on, Dumbo was only used as an attraction in a clown act: he had to jump from a burning house into a small bucket of water. The other elephants are ashamed of this and decide to permanently exclude Dumbo from their community. To cheer Dumbo up, Timothy takes him to his mother, Mrs. Jumbo, leading to a brief reunion between mother and son. Then, Dumbo and Timothy drink from a bucket of water into which an opened bottle of champagne fell shortly before, with which the clowns celebrated their success. When drunk, they dream of pink elephants.

The next morning, Dumbo and Timothy are awakened by a flock of crows. They must notice that they have landed on a tree. For Timothy, there is only one explanation: Dumbo must have flown to the top of the tree. This hypothesis first triggers a fit of laughter among the crows. But when Timothy tells them about Dumbo's fate as a rejected outsider, they feel guilty. They decide to help Dumbo fly and give him a "magic feather". Indeed, Dumbo manages to fly.

At the next performance, Dumbo must surprise everyone and fly. But in his jump, he loses the so-called magic feather. As he falls again, Timothy, sitting on Dumbo's cap, tries to explain to him that he can fly without the feather. And indeed, the little elephant starts to fly just before falling into the bucket. Now Dumbo is a star. His mother is released, given a private circus car, Timothy becomes Dumbo's manager and the little elephant is celebrated by everyone.
