Description of this Boulevard De La Mort Poster
Death Boulevard is a 2007 American black comedy action thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Kurt Russell as a stuntman who murders young women with modified cars he claims “deathproof”. Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Tracie Thoms, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Zoë Bell star as the women he targets.
The film was originally released theatrically as part of Grindhouse, a double feature combining Death Proof and Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror. After Grindhouse failed at the domestic box office, Death Boulevard was released as an independent film in other countries and on domestic media. The film received mostly positive reviews for its stunt sequences and homage to exploitation cinema, although its pacing was criticized.
Three friends, Arlene, Shanna and "Jungle" radio DJ Julia Lucai, walk down Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, to celebrate Julia's birthday. At a bar, Julia reveals that she made a radio ad offering a free lap dance to Arlene in exchange for calling her "Butterfly", buying her a drink, and reciting part of the poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" (Stopping in the woods on a snowy evening). Mike McKay, an aging Hollywood stuntman, follows the women to a bar and demands a lap dance. He notices that Julia is on billboards all over town and that she is cold towards him. He returns to sit with the group and recites the line to Arlene. She is suspicious, having seen Mike's car earlier in the day watching her outside a restaurant, but he convinces her to give him the lap dance.
The women prepare to leave with Lanna, another friend, for Shanna's lake house. Pam, a former classmate of Julia's, needs a ride home and accepts Mike's offer. Mike takes Pam in his Hollywood stunt car, complete with a roll cage, and tells her the car is "death-proof." Once Pam is in the passenger seat, he reveals that the car is only deathproof for the driver. He accelerates and brakes suddenly, crushing Pam's skull on the dashboard, killing her. He catches up with the women's car and crashes into it at high speed, killing them. Mike escaped without serious injury. Texas Ranger Earl McGraw believes Mike killed the women intentionally, but because Mike was sober while the women were intoxicated, he cannot be charged.
Fourteen months later, three young women - hair and makeup artist Abernathy "Abbie" Ross, stuntwoman Kim Mathis and aspiring actress Lee Montgomery - drive through the town of Lebanon, Tennessee, where they are filming a movie together . They stop at a convenience store, where Mike watches them from his car. The women are on their way to pick up Abbie and Kim's friend, stuntwoman Zoë Bell, from the airport, while Mike discreetly photographs them. Zoë tells them she wants to test drive a 1970 Dodge Challenger, the same type of car from the movie Vanishing Point (1971), which is for sale nearby. The owner lets them try the car unsupervised after Abernathy tells him that Lee is a porn star and will stay behind.
Zoe tells Abernathy and Kim that she wants to play a game they call "Ship's Mast", where she rides on the hood holding belts attached to the car while Kim drives at high speeds. Kim hesitates, but accepts. The three of them are having fun, without realizing that Mike is watching them. He hits them with his car and Zoé accidentally drops one of the belts. After several more collisions, he T-shaped them, throwing Zoe off the hood. Kim shoots Mike in the left shoulder, and he flees in the car. Abernathy and Kim mourn the loss of their friend, until Zoe escapes unharmed. The three agree to catch Mike and kill him.
Mike stopped on a narrow road to treat his wound with whiskey. The women stamp on him at high speed. Zoe gets out of the car and hits him with a pipe, but he resists and leaves. After a long chase, the women push Mike's car off the road. They pull him from the wreckage and beat him to death.
