Description of this Back To The Future 2 Poster

Back to the Future 2 is a 1989 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay by Bob Gale, both authors of the story. It is the sequel to the 1985 film Back to the Future and the second installment in the Back to the Future franchise. The film stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson with Elisabeth Shue (replacing Claudia Wells), and Jeffrey Weissman (replacing Crispin Glover) in supporting roles. The film follows Marty McFly (Fox) and his friend Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd) as they travel from 1985 to 2015 to stop Marty's son from sabotaging the McFly family's future. When their nemesis Biff Tannen (Wilson) steals Doc's DeLorean time machine and uses it to alter history for his benefit, the duo must return to 1955 to set the timeline straight.

The film was produced on a budget of $40 million and was filmed back to back with its sequel, Part III. Filming began in February 1989, after two years of building sets and writing scripts. Back to the Future Part II was also a groundbreaking project for visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). In addition to digital compositing, ILM used the VistaGlide motion-controlled camera system, which allows an actor to embody multiple characters simultaneously on screen without sacrificing camera movement.

Back to the Future 2 was released to theaters by Universal Pictures on November 22, 1989. The film received mixed reception from critics and grossed over $332 million worldwide upon its initial release. which makes it the third highest-grossing film of 1989.

On October 26, 1985, Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown arrived unexpectedly in the DeLorean time machine. He persuades Marty McFly and his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker, to travel to the future with him and help their future children, with Biff Tannen witnessing their departure. They arrive on October 21, 2015, where Doc electronically incapacitates Jennifer by leaving her asleep in an alley, explaining that she shouldn't have too much knowledge about future events. He poses Marty as his son and his lookalike Marty Jr. to refuse an offer to participate in a robbery with Griff, Biff's grandson, thus saving Marty Jr. from prison.

Marty trades places with Marty Jr. and refuses Griff's offer, but Griff pushes Marty to fight, leading to a hoverboard chase. Griff and his gang are arrested, saving Marty's future children. Before joining Doc, Marty buys an almanac containing the results of major sporting events from 1950 to 2000. Doc discovers it and warns Marty against taking advantage of time travel. Before Doc can properly dispose of her, they are interrupted by the police, who have found Jennifer incapacitated and are taking her to her home in 2015. They pursue her, as does old Biff, who has overheard their conversation and retrieved the discarded almanac.

Jennifer wakes up in her 2015 house and hides from the McFly family. She learns that her future self's life with Marty is not what she expected, due to his involvement in a car accident. She witnesses Marty being pressured by his colleague, Douglas Needles, into a shady deal, resulting in Marty's firing. Jennifer tries to escape the house but passes out after meeting her 2015 self. While Marty and Doc look after her, Biff steals the time machine to give the almanac to his younger brother , then returns to 2015. Marty, Doc, and an unconscious Jennifer return to 1985, unaware of Biff's actions. They leave Jennifer on the porch of her house.

The year 1985 they find has changed dramatically, with Biff having become one of the richest and most corrupt men in the country. He transformed Hill Valley into a chaotic dystopia, secretly killed Marty's father George in 1973, and forced Marty's mother Lorraine to marry him. Doc was also committed to a psychiatric hospital. Doc deduces that old Biff took the time machine to give the almanac to his younger brother, and Marty learns from the alternate 1985 Biff that he received it on November 12, 1955. Biff tries to kill Marty, but the latter flees and goes to 1955 with Doc.

Marty secretly follows Biff from 1955 and watches as he receives the almanac from his 2015 self. Marty then follows him to the high school dance, carefully avoiding interrupting the events of his previous visit. After several failed attempts, Marty finally obtains the almanac, leaving Biff to crash into a manure truck.

Marty burns the almanac, undoing the timeline changes it had caused, while Doc hovers above in the time machine. Before Marty can reach him, the DeLorean is struck by lightning and disappears. A Western Union courier arrives immediately and delivers a letter to Marty; it comes from Doc, who tells him that lightning transported him 70 years in the past, to 1885[N 2] Marty returns to town to find Doc from 1955, who had just helped Marty return to 1985. Shocked by Marty's sudden reappearance, Doc faints.
