Description of this Poster Adventure Is Adventure
L'aventure, c'est l'aventure is a 1972 French film directed by Claude Lelouch. Starring Lino Ventura and popular singers Jacques Brel and Johnny Hallyday, it chronicles the adventures of five criminals who move from conventional urban crime to international notoriety as celebrity kidnappers. The film was presented at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, but was not selected for the main competition.
In Paris in 1972, a group of five career criminals realize that the rewards of their traditional way of life are dwindling in the modern world. Lino, for example, finds that his prostitutes want to become independent entrepreneurs recognized by the state. Jacques accepts that his bank robberies yield little for the high risks. After long discussions, the five agree on the celebrity kidnapping. Their first target is the singer Johnny Hallyday, who is delighted with the publicity and himself writes them a huge ransom check.
With the money, they fly to Latin America where they are hired by left-wing guerrillas to kidnap the Swiss ambassador. The government agrees to release twenty imprisoned revolutionaries in exchange for his release. When rebel leader Ernesto refuses to pay the kidnappers' fees, they kidnap him and sell his freedom for cash to three separate buyers: his soldiers, the government and the CIA.
The gang fled with the money to the United States, where they hijacked a 747 and brought it back for a sum of millions. While vacationing on a yacht, they are hailed by five beauties in a speedboat. When the couples separate, Ernesto's soldiers board. Under torture, the five men tell him how to access their Swiss bank account. Once in possession of their money, he hands them over to the French police, who try them.
Their lawyer cleverly claims that this is a political trial and not a criminal one. Worried, the Minister of Justice arranges for them to escape and leave the country by plane. Arriving in Africa, their skills are immediately sought after. The army prepares a coup the day after the Pope's visit. The gang kidnaps the Pope at the airport and demands that all Catholics in the world pay at least one dollar for his release.
