Description of this Poster The 7 Mercenaries

The Mercenaries is a 1960 western by director John Sturges. The plot is based on the Japanese film The Seven Samurai, but is moved to North America. The film was produced by the Mirisch Corporation for United Artists. It arrived on February 24, 1961 on the distribution of United Artists in Germany to the cinema. In the United States, the theatrical release was on October 23, 1960. The film is considered one of the best westerns ever made.

A poor Mexican village is regularly threatened and robbed by a gang of bandits around Chief Calvera. Some villagers go to a border town with the United States to buy guns for their defense. They learn from the American Chris that rifles are of no use to them without combat experience. He advises them to hire men with guns for a while. Chris wins his case and manages to gain five capable revolver men from the United States for the expected fight against the bandits with the villagers' little money and valuables. A hot young spur ("Chico") is also included in the group after some pressure and swirling. The Revolver Men appear very different in portrayal and appearance and appear to have different skills, but are similar in combat.

After arriving at the village, the group builds fortifications with the villagers and trains them in the use of firearms. They successfully repel a first attack from Calvera's gang. However, many Mexicans became afraid and asked the seven to leave the village. The group, meanwhile, insists on continuing the fight with Calvera and tries to attack the gang in their camp. At the same time, some villagers conspire with the bandits. When the seven arrive in the village, they are surprised by Calvera and initially disarmed. After being released outside the village, they agree to return and fight again.

In the last battle, in which the villagers finally participate, the outnumbered bandits are defeated and almost completely wiped out. However, four of the seven fighters were also killed, namely Bernardo O'Reilly, Lee, Harry Luck and Britt. Chris comments on the loss of the four with a quote from the village elder: “Only the farmers could win. We have lost! - We always lose! “Chris and Vin leave. Chico stays in the village with Petra, a young woman with whom he has fallen in love.
