Description of this Pale Rider Poster

Pale Rider is a 1985 American western film produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, who also stars. The title refers to the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the ghost rider of the pale horse (Eastwood) representing Death. The film, which grossed more than $41 million at the box office, became the highest-grossing western of the 1980s.

In the Old West, outside LaHood, California, in Carbon Valley, mining baron Coy LaHood wages a war of intimidation against independent prospectors and their families, including Hull Barret who is courting Sarah Wheeler. Sarah's teenage daughter Megan prays for deliverance from LaHood after a band of his men attack the mining camp and kill her dog. Soon after, a man riding a pale horse arrives in Carbon Valley. When Hull goes to town for supplies, four of Lahood's men hit him with ax handles before the stranger fends them off with an ax handle of his own. Hull then invites his rescuer to dinner, and while the stranger is washing, he notices what appear to be six gunshot wounds in his back. When the stranger arrives at the table, he wears a clergy collar and is then called "Preacher". Coy LaHood's son Joshua tries to scare the Preacher with a gigantic worker named Club. But the preacher incapacitates Club by striking him in the groin with a sledgehammer.

Coy returns from Sacramento, learns of the Preacher's arrival and tries in vain to bribe him and then threaten him. At Preacher's suggestion, LaHood then offered the miners $1,000 per concession on the condition that they evacuate within 24 hours. LaHood says he intends to hire the services of a corrupt marshal named Stockburn to evacuate them if they refuse. The miners ultimately rejected LaHood's offer, although Preacher warned them against Stockburn. Megan expresses her love for Preacher, but he kindly pushes her away. Megan angrily assumes that Preacher is actually in love with Sarah. LaHood's men dammed the creek, forcing the miners to mine a dry bed. Megan rides horseback to LaHood's camp, where Joshua shows her the blasting operation before attempting to rape her. Preacher arrives on horseback, disarms Joshua and shoots him in the hand.

Stockburn and his deputies arrive in LaHood. Coy gives him a rough description of the Preacher, which surprises Stockburn, because the man Coy described is dead. Spider Conway, one of the miners and Coy's former associate, discovers a large gold nugget in the dry creek bed and goes to town with his teenage sons, where he yells insults at LaHood from the street, saying of intoxication. Stockburn and his deputies shoot him, and Stockburn sends a message saying he wants Preacher to meet him in town the next morning. Sarah begs Preacher not to go and tells him that she will marry Hull, despite her feelings for Preacher.

The next day, Preacher and Hull blew up the LaHood mining site with dynamite. To prevent Hull from following him, Preacher scares away Hull's horse and rides into town alone. In the ensuing shootout, he killed all of LaHood's men except the two who fled, then, one by one, all six of Stockburn's deputies. Finally, Preacher kills Stockburn who recognizes him in disbelief before being shot in the head. LaHood, who was observing the scene from his office, aimed his rifle at the Preacher, but he was shot dead by Hull.

Preacher nods to Hull and heads towards the snowy mountains. Megan arrives and, seeing Preacher walking away, shouts her love and thanks to him.
