Description of this National Loan Propaganda Poster

Created in 1918 by Marcel Falter, this propaganda poster depicts a French soldier struggling with a German eagle. In this poster we see the soldier with a determined look despite the ferocity of the eagle biting his hand. The purpose of the poster is to encourage citizens to subscribe to the last war loan in order to establish victory. France therefore expected citizens to lend money to the state by purchasing war bonds. During the war, France took out 4 loans for national defense, which increased it from 33 billion at the beginning of 1914 to 171.4 billion at the end of the war. Towards the end of the war, the French were becoming more and more impoverished and exasperated, so it was necessary to offer high interest rates and major public relations campaigns to get people to buy bonds. State. This poster was commissioned by the major French bank Société Générale.
