Description of this The Great Escape Movie Poster
The Great Escape is a 1963 American war adventure film[2] starring Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough and starring James Donald, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, Hannes Messemer, David McCallum, Karl-Otto Alberty , Gordon Jackson, John Leyton and Angus Lennie. It was filmed in Panavision, and its musical score was composed by Elmer Bernstein.
The film is based on the eponymous book by Paul Brickhill (1950), a first-hand account of the mass escape of British Commonwealth prisoners of war from the German Stalag Luft III camp in Sagan (now Żagań, Poland), in the Lower Silesia province of Nazi Germany. The film depicts a heavily fictionalized version of the escape, with many compromises for its commercial appeal, such as focusing more on American participation in the escape.
The Great Escape was made by The Mirisch Company, distributed by United Artists, and produced and directed by John Sturges. The film had its world premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square in London's West End on June 20, 1963.[3] The Great Escape established itself as one of the highest-grossing films of the year and earned McQueen the Best Actor award at the Moscow International Film Festival.[4]
