Description of this The Gooonies Movie Poster
The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure film, directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by Steven Spielberg, who also participated in the creation as executive producer and second unit director.
The Goonies are a group of adventure-seeking teenagers who travel around their town and surrounding areas. An unscrupulous real estate shark wants to buy out the children's subdivision (called Goon Docks) to turn it into a country club, and the parents don't have the money to fight off the impending foreclosure.
When the Goonies - Data, addicted to James Bond and inventive, Chunk, fat and clumsy, and Mouth, loudmouth - find themselves at their leader Mikey's house, they make an extraordinary discovery in the attic. Mikey's father, an archivist at the local museum, stored exhibits there, including a treasure map that is said to lead to the hideout of the legendary One-Eyed Pirate Willie.
After incapacitating Mikey's big brother, Brand, the Goonies follow the map to an abandoned summer restaurant on the beach. This is where the Fratellis, a gangster family, settled. After being kicked out by the Fratellis, the Goonies are joined by Brand, his great love Andy and their friend Stef, and try the adventure again. In the cellar, they discover not only the hidden entrance to the treasure cave, but also the criminal nature of the Fratellis.
When the Fratellis return unexpectedly, the Goonies flee into the secret passage, except for Chunk, who has been separated from the group. The latter has to go find the police, but he is captured and questioned by the Fratellis. After also discovering the entrance, the Fratellis follow the Goonies. Chunk is locked up with Sloth, the Fratellis' abused and extremely disfigured son. After being scared at first, Chunk gradually begins to befriend Sloth, and the two eventually escape and follow their friends into the caves.
In their quest, the Goonies fall into a series of death traps that Willie has built to protect his treasure and which they only manage to thwart with great difficulty and luck. Moreover, the Fratellis stubbornly remain on their heels. They eventually find One-Eyed Willie's pirate ship, the Inferno, and discover Willie's remains and his immense treasure on board. But immediately, the Fratellis catch up with them and force them to get rid of their loot, then pass the plank.
But before the worst happens, the Goonies are saved by Sloth and Chunk. While the teens flee to the shore, the Fratellis try to load up on treasure, but become too greedy and trigger a final trap that causes the cave to collapse. The Goonies, along with the Fratellis, manage to escape from the cave through a hole and reach the nearby beach, where they are taken in by police officers, journalists and their parents, who were already desperately searching for them. The Fratellis are arrested, except for Sloth, whom the children defend.
Without the treasure, it appears the Goon Docks are lost forever. But before Mikey's father signs the deed of transfer of the colony, the Walsh housekeeper finds jewels in Mikey's bag of marbles that the Fratellis had not seen, which leads to the cancellation of the seizure . And while the Goonies rejoice in their triumph with Sloth, everyone present sees the Inferno, freed by the collapse of the cave, sailing away into the open sea.
