The Fifth Element is a 1997 science fiction action film directed by Luc Besson and co-written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen from a story by Besson. It stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich. The central plot of the film, set primarily in the 23rd century, concerns the survival of planet Earth, which becomes the responsibility of Korben Dallas (Willis), a taxi driver and former special forces commander, after a young woman (Jovovich) fell in her taxi. To achieve this, Dallas teams up with her to recover four mystical stones essential to Earth's defense against the imminent attack of a malevolent cosmic entity.
