Description of this New York 1997 Film Poster
New York 1997 is a 1981 American science fiction film directed by John Carpenter4 and starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine and Donald Pleasance.
It earned four Saturn Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup.6 Due to its commercial success, it was followed by a sequel, also directed by Carpenter and starring Russell, Los Angeles 2013.
The story takes place in a hypothetical year 1997. Due to the rise in crime in the United States, which increases by more than 400%, the authorities make the decision to transform Manhattan into a mega-prison, to which people are taken the many criminals from all over the United States. The prison is surrounded by a huge wall and constantly monitored by police, who are equipped with army weapons to protect it. The prisoners there have built their own society based on barbarism, power and authority, but they always have the desire to escape, which is always prevented by the police.
That's when a group of terrorists hijack Air Force One and crash it into the city with the intention of killing the president, but they are unsuccessful, as the president manages to escape in time in an escape pod. However, the capsule, in which the President is located, lands in Manhattan, falling into the hands of the prisoners, who do not hesitate to negotiate their lives in exchange for military custody to let them escape and return to the United States. .
In this crisis, where conventional action would lead to the death of the most powerful man in the world, the warden of this prison finds the solution in the person of Snake Plissken, a veteran of World War III who was believed to be dead, who is hiding and fleeing justice. Recently arrested for robbing a Federal Reserve bank, he is brought before the prison warden to demand a ransom from the president in exchange for a pardon for all his lawbreaking. Snake Plissken accepts the deal but, to ensure his loyalty, a microscopic mechanism is installed in his artery without his consent, which would explode after 24 hours, to keep him under control during his rescue mission. The deadline is only 24 hours because the President is very important for an international conference.
Driven by circumstances, Snake does everything he can to save the President in time and succeeds, but only just. He becomes a free man, but, unbeknownst to them, he takes revenge for what happened and the President's arrogant behavior regarding his rescue, by destroying a very important tape he was to present to the conference and replacing it by an identical cassette containing music.
