Description of this Mary Poppins Movie Poster

The film begins with Bert, a London street artist, who guides the viewer to number 17 Cherry Orchard. This is home to the Bankses, a family living the typical upper-middle class life in England shortly before the First World War. George Banks is a bank employee, Winifred Banks is not busy with household management and is engaged elsewhere. Unlike most women in this situation, she not only gave charity, but fought as a suffragette. Servants look after the household and the children, Jane and Michael, nannies - but the latter has just thrown in the towel, frustrated, because the children have once again run away into the park.

So you have to find a new nanny. The children write a job offer which is torn up by Mr. Banks and thrown into the fireplace. From there, the note miraculously finds its way to Mary Poppins. Many interested people respond to Mr. Banks' ad, but when the maid has to invite them in, they are all literally blown away by the wind - except Mary Poppins, who descends from the sky with an open umbrella. To Mr. Banks' astonishment, she holds the children's paper in her hand. In the job interview that follows, it is not the potential employer who dominates, but Mary Poppins. She takes office and immediately takes command of the children.

It quickly becomes clear that Mary Poppins has very specific educational goals. It shows children that work is fun, that contact with lower-class people can be entertaining, and that helping people in need can be satisfying. She also manages to convince Mr. Banks to organize an excursion that will allow the children to learn about their father's professional life. On this occasion, Mr Dawes senior, the senior manager of the bank, wants to persuade Michael to open an account with the pocket money he has saved. The fact that Michael, at the instigation of Mary Poppins, wants to give something to gain to a poor bird-woman on the steps of Saint Paul's Cathedral is met with total incomprehension from the bankers. When Michael shouts for the money that had previously been taken from him to be returned, there is panic in the cash registers and in the street, which ends in a run on the banks - all the customers present demand the payment of their accounts. At the end of the evening, Mr. Banks was summoned to the bank again by telephone. However, a conversation with Bert makes him understand that the most important thing in his life is his family, which allows him to face his bosses with confidence and serenity. He was certainly dismissed without notice due to his son's behavior, but he returned to his position the next day and was even promoted to associate.

The next morning, Mary Poppins packs her bags. Her task is completed, she has succeeded in making the family live in harmony.
