Description of this Mad Max Poster
Mad Max is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film. Directed by George Miller, it was released in French cinemas on February 29, 1980. The action takes place in an unspecified future in Australia, centered on the conflict between a gang of rockers and policeman Max Rockatansky, the murder of his son and the attempted murder of his wife, as well as his quest for revenge. The film, shot on a low budget, was an international success and a series of films were subsequently made around Max Rockatansky: Mad Max II, Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome and Mad Max: Fury Road .
The film takes place in Australia, in an undated near future. Motorized gangs dominate the streets, murders and street assaults are commonplace. The police (MFP - Main Force Patrol), no less brutal, are waging an almost losing war against marauders and rocker gangs. When Nightrider, the famous leader of the jockeys from hell, escapes from prison and leaves a trail of wildfire in his escape with a V8 police response vehicle that he stole, police officer Max Rockatansky sets out to his pursuit. Eventually, Nightrider dies in the chase with Rockatansky.
The members of the Hell Jockeys want to arrest the alleged murderer of the gang leader. They are led by the brutal Toecutter. They first pick up Nightrider's body at a small town's train station, then maraud through the town. After attacking a couple and destroying their car, they leave, leaving behind a member of the gang, Johnny, from a bourgeois family, under the influence of drugs and arrested by Max and Goose. As the attacked couple does not file a complaint for fear of the gang, the police have to release Johnny, who then clashes with Goose and swears revenge.
Toecutter asks his sidekick Johnny to burn Max's friend Goose after a self-inflicted accident. Johnny refuses, but Toecutter pressures him until a burning match finally escapes from his hands and the flowing gasoline sets the wrecked car on fire with Goose trapped inside. When Max sees Goose, horribly disfigured, in the hospital, he wants to leave his post. The police chief, Fifi Macaffee, tries to convince Max to stay on the force. Max agrees to take an extended leave of absence and leaves town with his wife Jessie and son. By chance, during a stop at the garage, Jessie encounters the Hell Jockeys who harass her and, after kicking their leader in the testicles, pursue her. In his escape, Cundalini, a member of the gang, loses his hand. The rockers attack the family on the farm where Max and his family have decided to spend their vacation and seize the son while Max searches for his attackers in the nearby forest. With the help of the farmer, Jessie manages to free the son and escape by car. But when the vehicle stops due to an engine failure and Jessie flees on foot with her son in her arms to escape the approaching rockers, she is knocked down and her son killed, while the woman survives, seriously injured.
In revenge, Max steals a tampered with 440 kW (598 hp) V8 (a modified Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe) from the police and sets out to find the killers. He manages to push some of the rockers off a bridge. During the chase, he is ambushed by Toecutter and his relatives Johnny and Bubba; as Max approaches Johnny, who is playing dead after what he believes to be a motorcycle accident, Bubba shoots Max in the leg. Max is down and Bubba runs over his arm with his motorcycle as he tries to grab his gun. When Bubba then takes another swing to crush Max, the latter manages to crawl to his sawed-off shotgun just before the collision and shoot Bubba with it. Toecutter and Johnny then flee. Max continues to chase them. During the chase, Toecutter died in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck. Max then finds Johnny near a wrecked vehicle, as he prepares to steal the deceased driver's boots. Max handcuffs Johnny's ankles to the wrecked vehicle, from which gasoline is leaking. He then improvises, using a lighter, a time-delayed detonator that will detonate the vehicle in about five minutes. He throws a saw at Johnny, telling him that sawing off the handcuff chain would take at least ten minutes, but that Johnny would be lucky enough to be able to cut off his foot in just five minutes. Johnny unsuccessfully begs Max to undo the handcuffs and let him go, but Max leaves him and gets into his car without saying a word. In the last scene, we see Max walking away as the wrecked car explodes behind him.
