Description of this Poster The Under-Gifted

The school year at the Cours Louis VIX private school in Versailles ends with a catastrophic result for the director Lucie Jumaucourt: all the students in the final year class have failed. But instead of sadness, it is enthusiasm that dominates among the students, failure in the baccalaureate being a tradition for some: Baptiste Lavalle, known as "Bebel", for example failed the exam for the fourth time . This new school year also shows no improvement in academic results and students' attitudes towards the baccalaureate. Lucie Jumaucourt, however, is committed to ensuring that all students have their baccalaureate at the end of the school year. She replaces the attractive sports teacher Marilyn with the giant Bruce, who also serves as a measure of threat in case of misbehavior in class. All classrooms are under video surveillance and even smoking in the toilets is made difficult by smoke detectors. However, thanks to modern technology, students still manage to do as they please: Video surveillance becomes a farce thanks to the broadcast of home movies, chemistry class becomes a very foggy affair due to poor dosage of chemicals and the math class becomes a challenge for Léon, the hearing-impaired math teacher, due to seemingly mute answers. Instead of school, the students prefer to devote themselves to their romantic relationships, so Bebel tries in vain to tear away his girlfriend Caroline from Julien, and ends up finding himself in bed with Jeanne. Shortly after, she announces to her classmates that she is pregnant.

The chaos in class is alleviated by the arrival of a new student: Gaston Pourquier is already retired and wants to realize his life's dream with the baccalaureate. But the preliminary exam for the baccalaureate despairs Lucie Jumaucourt, because even the first in the class only obtains a little more than a quarter of the possible points. However, she admits to being satisfied in front of the class and presents her new teacher to the students the next day: A learning machine from the United States, which distributes blows for each wrong answer, but rewards correct answers with candy. Sure, students first submit to the machine, but then they work on new ways to prevent learning. After a first bomb alert which annoys the commissioner, already annoyed by the students, the police no longer let themselves be fooled by another alert. Bebel and his acolytes without hesitation create a real little bomb. The plans are brought to the attention of real terrorists, who build a large identical bomb. By the greatest chance, the terrorists' bomb landed at the school and the small bomb at the Abou-Yamen embassy. As the police refuse to believe the students' story of the real bomb, an explosion occurs and the school building is completely devastated. In court, the students claim not to be criminals and the judge wants to believe them on one condition: if they all pass the baccalaureate, the case is forgotten. If they fail, they will have to serve their sentence. The commissioner can act as a supervisor during the exams, and he is happy. Through excessive cheating and extravagant variations, all the students succeed in the written and oral exams, with Jeanne even giving birth to her daughter during the written exam. The commissioner is revolted by the injustice of the world.

Ten years later, the former students meet again. All of them have succeeded in life in different ways. In front of the meeting place, the commissioner regulates the traffic half-crazed. Bebel calls him to meet them and everyone plays one last prank on him: as he prepares to blow out the candles on a birthday cake, the cake explodes and leaves him decorated with cream.
