Description of this Gremlins 2 Poster

Gremlins 2: The Next Generation is a 1990 American horror black comedy film, the sequel to the 1984 film Gremlins. It was directed by Joe Dante and written by Charles S. Haas, with creature designs by Rick Baker. Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Dick Miller, Jackie Joseph and Keye Luke reprise their roles from the first film; Belinda Balaski is also back, but this time in a different role. New cast members include John Glover, Robert Prosky, Haviland Morris, Robert Picardo and Christopher Lee; Additionally, Tony Randall lends his voice to one of the gremlins. The story continues the adventures of the creature Gizmo (again played by Howie Mandel), who spawns many small monsters when wet. In the first film, Gizmo's offspring ran amok in a fictional small town. In Gremlins 2: The Next Generation, Gizmo multiplies inside a skyscraper in New York after the death of his owner. The new creatures therefore pose a serious threat to the city if they manage to leave the building, and the story revolves around the efforts of the human characters to prevent this disaster.

Like the first film, Gremlins 2: The Next Generation is a live-action horror comedy, but Dante has strived to take this sequel in a new, anarchic direction. Dante created the film to act almost as a parody of the original Gremlins, and it is meant to be more cartoonish and less dark than the original. Its violence leans more towards burlesque, which explains why the film was rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The film also features a number of parodies of other films and stories, including the Rambo films, The Wizard of Oz, Marathon Man and The Phantom of the Opera. When released in theaters on June 15, 1990, Gremlins 2: The Next Generation was a disappointment at the box office, grossing only $41.5 million on a budget of $30–50 million. Despite a mixed critical reception upon its release, the film developed a cult following.

The film is being released on an undisclosed date in December, close to Christmas. After the death of his owner, Mr. Wing, the mogwai Gizmo becomes the guinea pig of scientists in a laboratory at the Clamp Center, an ultra-modern Manhattan building owned by the eccentric billionaire Daniel Clamp. At the mercy of head researcher Dr. Catheter, Gizmo is rescued by his former owner, Billy Peltzer, and his fiancée Kate, who both work in another building. Clamp befriends Billy, impressed by his design skills, which piques the interest of Marla Bloodstone, Billy's superior. Gizmo is left in the office, where water from a broken fountain spills over his head and spawns four new mogwai. They cage Gizmo in the air vents and then eat in the building's food court after midnight, becoming gremlins.

After Gizmo escapes from the vent, Mohawk captures and tortures him. The other gremlins trigger the fire sprinklers and spawn an army of gremlins that wreak havoc in the building. Billy tries to lure the gremlins into the lobby, where the sunlight will kill them; after Billy informs Clamp about the gremlins, Clamp exits through a secret tunnel to cover the front of the building with a giant sheet in order to fool the creatures. Gremlins drink genetic serums in the laboratory; one of them becomes an intelligent brain gremlin, another gremlin becomes a female, and a third becomes a being of pure electricity and kills Dr. Catheter before Billy traps him in the building's telephone system. Meanwhile, TV host "Grandpa Fred" films the chaos, aided by Japanese tourist Mr. Katsuji.

Murray Futterman, a neighbor of Billy's from Kingston Falls and visiting New York with his wife Sheila, is attacked by a bat-gremlin hybrid immune to sunlight by the Gremlin Brain using a " genetic sunscreen.” After pushing him away, Murray realizes that he is not crazy and that he must help him. When Clamp escapes the building using his secret path, Murray uses it to sneak inside and help Billy. Billy and security chief Forster team up, but the amorous female gremlin chases Forster away. Mohawk drinks a spider serum and transforms into a monstrous gremlin-spider hybrid. He attacks Kate and Marla, but Gizmo saves them by killing Mohawk with a flaming white-out bottle.

Billy's plan to kill the gremlins by flooding the lobby with sunlight fails when rain clouds block the sun. He has Murray douse the gremlins with a fire hose, then releases the phone's electric hose to electrocute and melt them. Clamp intervenes with the police and the press, but finds that the conflict is resolved; delighted with the result, he promotes Billy, Kate, Fred and Marla and hires Mr. Katsuji as cameraman. Billy and Kate then return home with Gizmo. Forster calls Clamp to inform him that he is stuck on the highest floor of the building. The female gremlin, nicknamed "Greta" and the only survivor of the horde, corners him and encourages him to marry her.
