Description of this Fear In The City Poster
Fear in the City is a 1975 French crime film directed by Henri Verneuil and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. This was Belmondo's first time playing a police officer.
Police officer Jean Letellier is under pressure, because the infamous gangster Marcucci has publicly escaped his notice. Additionally, during the chase, an innocent bystander was killed by a stray bullet. Letellier is under investigation for firing the fatal bullet.
Before Letellier is exonerated, a serial killer begins murdering young women, each time leaving a strange message at the scene of the crime. He calls himself "Minos", in reference to the Divine Comedy. The murderer always states that he punished his victims for what he considers to be their impure lifestyle.
While Letellier still has no trace of Minos, he discovers Marcucci's whereabouts. As before, Marcucci attempts to escape in spectacular fashion when Letellier confronts him. But this time, Marcucci dies during the action.
Marcucci's death comes as no relief to Letellier who is now publicly accused of neglecting the Minos affair in favor of settling his personal feud with his late nemesis.
Minos continues to murder and leave provocative clues until Letellier can identify him. The serial killer can only barely escape Letellier, who pursues him across the rooftops of Paris. His next move is to take hostages in a skyscraper. Letellier decides he's had enough and flies away. From a flying helicopter, he jumps out of the apartment window and knocks Minos to the ground.
