Description of this Dumbo 1941 Poster

Dumbo is an animated feature film from Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the children's book of the same name by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Pearl, Dumbo was produced by Walt Disney and released on October 23, 1941, by RKO Radio Pictures.

The main character is Jumbo Jr, a small elephant who is cruelly nicknamed Dumbo (dumb means both "idiot" and, disparagingly, "moron"), and who is ridiculed for his large ears, although he discovers that he can fly using them as wings. His only friend is Timothy the mouse, parodying elephants' stereotypical terror of rodents. The Dumbo movie was made to recoup Fantasia's financial losses. It was a deliberate exercise in simplicity and economy on the part of the Disney studio, and is today considered an animation classic. At 64 minutes, it is one of Disney's shortest animated films.

In 2017, it was added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

The film begins when storks bring several baby animals to the Casey Jr. circus animals. The next day, as the circus animals are being transported on a circus train, the elephant Mrs. Jumbo receives her baby from a stork. The baby elephant quickly becomes the butt of other elephants' jokes because of his big ears, and they call him "Shaman."

Once the circus is set up, Mrs. Jumbo loses patience with a group of rude boys who make fun of Dumbo, leading to him being labeled a dangerous animal. The elephant and Dumbo are separated. Without his mother, Dumbo finds himself alone. Timothy the mouse becomes his best friend.

The emcee gets Dumbo to participate in the elephant pyramid act by making him stand on top, but Dumbo causes the act to slip, injuring the others and causing the big top to fall. Dumbo is forced to change activities and becomes a clown. His act ends with the little elephant falling into a bathtub of soapy water. Despite his popularity and fame, Dumbo is mocked by the other elephants and the public.

To cheer Dumbo up, Timothy takes him to visit his mother. On the way back, Timothée and Dumbo drink water from a bucket into which a bottle of champagne that the clowns were drinking accidentally fell. They are both drunk and having hallucinations of pink elephants.

The next morning, Dumbo and Timothy wake up in a tree. Timothy wonders how they got to the tree and concludes that Dumbo flew there with his big wing-like ears. With the help of a group of mocking crows, Timothy manages to make Dumbo fly again, using the psychological trick of the "magic feather" to boost his confidence.

Back at the circus, Dumbo must perform a new trick: jumping from a much higher platform. On the way down, a terrified Dumbo drops the feather. Timothy reassures him and tells him that the feather was never magic, that he is still able to fly. Thanks to this, Dumbo is able to fly around the circus, under the amazed gaze of the audience.

After this performance, Dumbo becomes a media sensation, Timothy becomes his manager, and Dumbo and his mother get a private car on the circus train.
