Description of this Poster The Professional

The Professional is a French action film released in 1981, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo in the lead role. The film was directed by Georges Lautner. The screenplay was written by Michel Audiard, Georges Lautner and Jacques Audiard. The film is based on the novel Death of a Thin Skinned Animal by Patrick Alexander.

Ennio Morricone composed the music. The theme tune "Chi Mai" became an instrumental hit.

French secret agent Josselin "Joss" Beaumont is sent to Malagawi, an African country, to kill that country's dictator and president. Before this happens, the political situation in France suddenly changes and the assassination of the Malagasy president is no longer desirable. As it is too late to prevent Beaumont from accomplishing his mission, he is betrayed by Malagawi. He was arrested by the Malagasy authorities, tried under the influence of drugs and sentenced to forced labor for life in a labor camp during a show trial.

After two years, Beaumont managed to escape with the help of a fellow local inmate, who was killed during the escape. He returns to France to take revenge. To do this, he wants to stick to his mission of assassinating the Malagasy president, because he is expected in France in the coming days as a state guest. Beaumont communicates his intention to his former superior, Colonel Martin, via a coded telegram. He then does everything possible to prevent his former agent from carrying out his plan and sends agents after him. Rosen, an ambitious commissioner and head of a ruthless special unit, particularly stands out. Along with his men, Rosen also puts strong pressure on Beaumont's wife to find out where he is. Later in the film, Beaumont and Rosen engage in a pistol duel, during which Beaumont shoots Rosen dead.

Finally, Beaumont manages to enter by trickery into the heavily guarded castle where the president is located and to carry out his "mission": He leaves his empty pistol with the president and when the latter appears at the window, the weapon is drawn. hand, auxiliary inspector Farges of Rosen's troop accidentally shoots the president with a sniper rifle. Beaumont leaves the castle safely and heads towards the African president's favorite prostitute's helicopter, which is ready to leave. Colonel Martin informed the Minister of the Interior who finally gave the order to shoot, so that Beaumont was shot dead at the last moment by Farges.
