Description of this Darth Vader Plaque
Darth Vader is a fictional character from the Star Wars franchise. The character is the main antagonist of the original trilogy, and as Anakin Skywalker, he is the main protagonist of the prequel trilogy. Star Wars creator George Lucas collectively referred to the franchise's first six episodic films as a "Darth Vader tragedy."
Originally a slave on Tatooine, Anakin is a Jedi who was given a prophecy to bring balance to the Force. He is drawn to the dark side of the Force by Palpatine and becomes a Sith Lord, taking the title Darth Vader. After a lightsaber fight against his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, during which he is seriously injured, Vader is transformed into a cyborg. He then serves the Galactic Empire as its chief enforcer. Vader ultimately redeems himself by saving his son Luke Skywalker and killing Palpatine, at the cost of his own life. He is also the secret husband of Padmé Amidala, the biological father of Princess Leia, and the maternal grandfather of Kylo Ren.
The character has been played by many actors: David Prowse physically played Vader while James Earl Jones voiced him in the original trilogy, and Sebastian Shaw played the unmasked Anakin in Return of the Jedi, as well as the spirit of the character in the original version of this film. Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen played the character in the prequel trilogy, in the first and subsequent two films respectively, and the latter also replaced Shaw as Anakin's spirit in the re-release of Return of the Jedi in 2004. His film appearances span the first six Star Wars films, as well as Rogue One. He is mentioned in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and makes voice appearances as Vader and Anakin in The Rise of Skywalker. He also appears in television series (including The Clone Wars) and in numerous iterations of the Star Wars expanded universe, including video games, novels, and comic books.
Darth Vader has become one of the most iconic villains in popular culture and has been ranked among the greatest villains and fictional characters of all time. The American Film Institute ranked him as the third greatest villain in the history of cinema as part of the study 100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains, behind Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates. His role as a tragic hero in the saga also received positive reviews.
